BAKTERIJSKE PATOGENE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF ESSENTIAL OILS ON RESPIRATORY BACTERIAL PATHOGEN

SUMMARY:
The aim of
this study was to test the antibacterial activity of essential oils on common
respiratory pathogens. For that purpose we inoculated two strains in parallel
rows on solid culture medium and exposed them etheric oil activity. After 24
hours incubation period we measured the zone of growth inhibition. The most
susceptible strain was Moraxella catarrhalis followed by Streptococcus pneumoniae,
Haemophilius sp. and Staphylococcus aureus. The strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
did not show any growth inhibition. All tested essential oils have demonstrated
significant inhibitory activity. The most efficient etheric oils were: oil of
menthe and oil mixture "TUSOL".

SAŽETAK:
Našim ispitivanjem
željeli smo dokazati antibakterijsko djelovanje hlapivih komponenta eteričnih
ulja na uobičajne respiratorne patogene. U to svrhu smo po dva soja nasadili
u obliku paralelnih linija na kruta hranilišta, te ih izložili djelovanju eteričnog
ulja. Nakon 24-satne inkubacije očitali smo dužine inhibicije rasta. Najosjetljivijom
se pokazala Moraxella catarrhalis, a slijedili su je Streptococcus pneumoniae,
Haemophilus sp. i Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa jedini nije
pokazao nikakvu inhibiciju rasta. Sva testirana eterična ulja pokazala su značajno
inhibitorno djelovanje, ali su ipak ulje mente i mješavina eteričnog ulja "TUSOL"
bili djelotvorniji.
